Rev. Admire Cleeve was born and grew up in Freetown, Sierra
Leone, West Africa. fter his high
school education, he was awarded a scholarship by the Sierra
Leone Government to study Physical Education in the Scottish
School for Physical Education in Glasgow, Scotland (SSPE).
Admire left the college at the end of the second academic
year, unsure as to whether physical Education was his calling.
Later, the Sierra Leone
Government again awarded a scholarship
to Admire to study Accounting, Business and Management in the
Professional Division of the Polytechnic of North London.
He graduated as an Associate Member of the Institute of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA)- A British
professional degree in Administration, Accounting and
Management. William was also
admitted as a member of the British Institute of Management
(MBIM)
Cleeve returned to Sierra Leone and was appointed Assistant
Accountant by BP Gas, and later as Exchange Control Manager and
Company Secretary of a major British Company in Sierra Leone -
UAC of Sierra Leone Ltd."
It was during this period that Admire was called to the ministry.
He studied part-time and after three and a half years,
graduated with a postgraduate certificate in Pastoral Studies
from the Theological Hall and Church Training Centre in
Freetown, Sierra Leone.
He was ordained in the Anglican Cathedral of St. George in
Freetown, Sierra Leone twenty five years ago. He served in the
Diocesan Centre and in three parishes in Freetown before he left
Sierra Leone the second time to serve in the Isle of Man as
Curate and three and a half years later in the Diocese of
Oxford, Church of England, as Team Vicar for six years and Vicar
for five, accordingly.
During his period in the Diocese of Oxford in the Church of
England, he obtained a masters degree in applied theology from the University of Oxford in the
United Kingdom and is presently studying for his doctorate
degree Th. D.
He was secretary of the Interfaith Group in Reading and adviser to
the Area Bishop of Reading in Interfaith issues.
Admire was also a member of Rotary International.
Admire and his family immigrated to the United States in 2003
and Admire was called to the Parish of St. Paul as Rector,
in the Diocese of Massachusetts later that year.
Admire served St. Paul's for two years and nine months, before relocating to Columbus
Ohio.
Thanks to Bishop Kenneth Price and the Commission for
Congregational life in the Diocese of Southern Ohio (COCL), who
in March 2006 gave Admire permission to start a new church in
the old St. Paul's
building, now St. Cyprian of Carthage Episcopal Church.
The launch of the church took place in June of 2006.
Admire is married and now has four children after their eldest son died in 2005.
Three are now adults and the last is twelve years old.
His wife Cecilia, a former nurse, teacher and community
worker, now works as a Case Manager/Clinician at North Central
Mental Health Services in downtown Columbus.
