Juliette, the penultimate child of a
family of 16 on the paternal side, and 8 on the
maternal side, was born and grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone,
West Africa. After her high school education she worked as a 3rd
Grade Clerk in the Establishment Secretary's office of the
Government of Sierra Leone for two years before proceeding to
the United Kingdom on study leave to pursue higher education. She studied
Business Studies at Princeton College, London majoring in Secretarial duties.
Juliette returned to Sierra Leone and was appointed
Administrative Secretary in the Republic of Sierra Leone Government. She worked in various
departments - Health, Trade & Industry, Defense, Training & Recruitment and the
Establishment Secretary's office. She was later seconded to the Forest Industries
Corporation, Kenema – a quashi Government company in the
Eastern Province of Sierra Leone.
She worked as Administrative Secretary to the General
Manager for 2 years before reverting to the Civil Service
(Federal.)
Juliette worked a total of 18 years in the Civil Service
before seeking an early retirement to work in the commercial sector. She joined KLM Dutch
Airlines in Freetown, with headquarters in Amsterdam the Netherlands, as a relief
Secretary. She pursued various training in Amsterdam, and was
later appointed Service Officer - Ticketing, Flight
reservations and checking-in passengers. Juliette worked with
KLM Royal Dutch -
Airlines for a total of 9 years.
Juliette and her late husband - Christian Johnson - immigrated
to the US in April of 1997. She joined People's Travel Agency
as Travel Consultant in the Corporate Travel Division of
Nationwide Insurance in April of 1998. Peoples Travel Agency
was later sold to World Travel Agency and she was one of the lucky ones
to be offered employment as Quality Control Officer, in charge
of ticket stocks, exchanges and refunds. She had several In-service trainings. As her
knowledge of computer was mainly in the airline field, she
decided to take private studies through Education Direct,
now Perm Foster, and acquired a certificate in basic computer
skills, including word and excel.
Juliette's first husband of 22 years sadly passed away in
April of 2002. She continued with her home studies through Perm Foster and had acquired
Diploma in Small Business Management, and later, Pharmacy Technician. She then decided
to change from the airline to the health field, and was
employed at Morning View Care Center Community Services as
Office Assistant / Habilitation Technician.
Juliette is a born Christian, baptized when she was 3 months
old. Interestingly, she was baptized, confirmed and first
married in the Roman Catholic Church. She then became a
Methodist after her 1st marriage. She was a class
leader and a member of the Methodist Women Fellowship Association in Sierra Leone. She was also a
member of the choir at Columbia Heights United Methodist in Galloway, Columbus, Ohio.
Juliette became an Episcopalian on the launching of St.Cyprian of Carthage in June of 2006, and
was elected
Senior Warden a year later.
Another interesting thing in Juliette's profile is her 2nd
husband.They first met when they were in their twenties, dated for sometime and then went
their separate ways. They married to different partners. Both lost their partners the same year,
and met again after over 30 years.
Juliette remarried in September 13, 2008 to Franklyn V. Tony
Davies, a retired Deputy Accountant General of the Government of Sierra Leone. Her 2nd
marriage took place at St. Cyprian of Carthage Episcopal
Church. She had a daughter and three grandsons by her first
marriage, and a step-daughter, a step grandson and 3 step sons have
been added because of her second husband. |
